The first Saturday of the month is time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point, which today is Redhead by the Side of the Road by Anne Tyler.
I've not read this book but have read several by an author with the same surname: L.C. Tyler. Len Tyler writes comic crime novels. I'm following his historical mystery series set in the 17th century which features John Grey, a lawyer and a spy. The latest and fifth book in this series is The Bleak Midwinter.
The fifth book in another series I'm following is The Bee's Kiss by Barbara Cleverly. Initially this series was set in 1920s India during the

Once again it's the first Saturday of the month and time for Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point, which today is The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
Here is a bit of the book's description from Goodreads:
... The Turn of the Screw tells of a nameless young governess sent to a country house to take charge of two orphans, Miles and Flora. Unsettled by a dark foreboding of menace within the house, she soon comes to believe that something malevolent is stalking the children in her care. But is the threat to her

From Rodham to Mariana
The first Saturday of the month is time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point, which today is Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld.
Here is a bit of the book's description from Goodreads:
From the New York Times bestselling author of American Wife and Eligible, a novel that imagines a deeply compelling what-might-have-been: What if Hillary Rodham hadn’t married Bill Clinton?
I haven't read this book and didn't know where to go to from here. So, as last month, I

SIX IN SIX - 2020 EDITION!
Here we are in July, which means it's time to participate in this fun meme hosted by Jo @ The Book Jotter.
SIX IN SIX is a meme where the aim is to share in July six books in six categories from the books we have read etc. in the first six months of the year, either using Jo's categories or your own.
Once again I've more or less stuck to the categories I used last year.

SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION
From The Road to The Keys of the Kingdom
The first Saturday of the month is time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
This month we're starting with Cormac McCarthy's The Road. It is a book I haven't read as I'm not a great fan of post apocalyptic novels. I'm quite happy to read about death and destruction in historical wars, but an apocalyptic war and its aftermath is not for me.
However, back in high school, I did pick up a post apocalyptic novel. This was On the Beach by Neville Shute, which was set in

THROWBACK THURSDAY
The Fort by Bernard Cornwell
Today, I’m linking up with Davida @ The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog for another Throwback Thursday.
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of being the first stop on a Blog Tour for Man of War, the fourth book of T.J. London's American Revolutionary War series, The Rebels and Red Coats Saga.
With this fresh in my mind, it was easy to select which old review to promote today. For this post I'm going back to 2014 when I reviewed Bernard Cornwell's Revolutionary War novel, The Fort.
The story relates the events of The Penobscot Expedition of 1779, when an American armada

SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION: From Stasiland to The Pearl of York, Treason and Plot
The first Saturday of the month is time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
This month it is Stasiland by Anna Funder. Once again, I've not read the book we're starting with, but I have read Funder's debut novel All That I Am. It details the rise of Hitler and the Nazis as witnessed by a group of exiled activists which included real life figures, Ernst Toller and Dora Fabian.
My next link takes me to a recent release that I've just finished reading, which also involves the rise of Hitler

THROWBACK THURSDAY: The Unknown Ajax by Georgette Heyer
Today, I’m linking up with Davida @ The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog for Throwback Thursday.
I'm not sure what format my posts will take. Initially, I intend to feature some of my old reviews, but as I have a number of draft reviews going back a few years this may be the ideal opportunity to tweak and finally publish them.
Currently on Twitter there is a Georgette Heyer Readalong featuring The Unknown Ajax, with discussions held on Sundays and Wednesdays. Unfortunately these take place at 7.00 pm UK time which converts to about 5.00 am in my part of Australia. Way too early for me to participate, but I

SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION: From Wolfe Island to Island of Bones
The first Saturday of the month is time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
This month it is Wolfe Island by Lucy Treloar. Once again, it is a book I haven't read yet, even though I had intended to before this month's Six Degrees of Separation. The setting is an island off the north east coast of the USA
My first thought was to link to other novels set on islands. I've read many books with this setting, but as I'm pressed for time this month, I'm going with the

The first Saturday of the month is time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
This month the starting point is Fleishman is in Trouble by Taffy Brodesser-Akner, a book that topped the critics ‘best of 2019’ lists.
Once again we're starting with a novel I haven't read. That's okay. I'm getting used to searching for that first link no matter how obscure. This time, however, I didn't have to look too deeply. I'm using the fact that this was Brodesser-Akner's debut novel to make my

It's the first Saturday of the month and time to play Six Degrees of Separation, the first for 2020. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Read is this month's starting point. It is about a fictional 1970s rock and roll band.
Again, I haven't read the book we are starting with, which makes it that little bit harder to launch the chain. The book's blurb, however, contains the phrase coming of age. A classic coming of age story, and a

SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION: From Sanditon to Khaki Town
It's the first Saturday of the month and time to play Six Degrees of Separation, the final one for 2019. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
Today's starting point is Sanditon by Jane Austen. Again we're starting with a book I haven't read. It's not one I'm interested in reading at this stage, but I'm looking forward to the TV series. Jane Austen died before she could finish this book.
A number of authors have died leaving unfinished works, but the one that sprang to mind immediately

It's the first Saturday of the month which means it's time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
Today's starting point is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I've not read this book, although I do want to, hopefully before the TV series is released.
The plot involves an aristocrat who is arrested by the Bolsheviks and confined to a hotel. His luxury suite is exchanged for a small attic room with a tiny window. This immediately brought to mind Robyn Cadwallader's The Anchoress where the female

SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION: From The Lily in the Snow to The Widow of Ballarat
It's the beginning of a new month which means it's time to play Six Degrees of Separation. This meme is hosted by Kate of Books Are My Favourite and Best. The aim is to link six books to each other from the starting point.
This month we're playing a wild card. The starting point is the book you’ve ended last month’s chain with or for those playing for the first time, start with the last book you finished reading. Even though I've participated before, this is my first time this year. So, I'm bending the rules a little to start with the last book I finished reading in July: The Lily in the Snow by Jackie French. This is the third and latest book in her
