Back in May 2021, Kay @ Whatmeread announced this challenge to read Angela Thirkell's Barsetshire series in order, starting with High Rising in June.
I've not read anything by this author. Many have and, by the reviews I've read, loved them.
So, I'm taking up the challenge. Not sure how I will go, but starting and reading a series in order is one of my personal reading rules, although I have broken this rule several times.
It also depends on if I can track down copies of these books from my library. I've already hit a snag with The Demon in the House (#3), but will keep searching.
There are no hard and fast rules. Readers are encouraged to jump in at any stage. So, why not get onboard?

UPDATE 27/10/2024 - Woo Hoo! Looks like I'm back on track after so long. Just noticed that Amazon Australia have most of Thirkell's novels available for around $1.64 each (Kindle). I've snapped up all the titles I haven't been able to get from the library except for three: Love at All Ages, What Did it Mean? and Three Score and Ten; these are still too pricey. However, I have enough to be getting on with, but will continue to keep a look out for bargains.

I was unaware of this ‘challenge’ when I discovered the Barsetshire novels of Angela Thirkell. A friend and fellow Trollope lover gave me two duplicates from his collection of Thirkell’s saga and I caught the bug.
ReplyDeleteDetermined to read more - but in sequence - unlike the two I had already read - I went online and discovered the Angela Thirkell Society. I have not looked back and it has been a wonderful experience. I have been able to acquire all but one of the Barsetshire series and a couple of biographies of the author along with a guide to all the novels.
I heartily recommend lovers of AT to join (a bargain at £12 pa) and a great way to buy second-hand AT volumes at remarkably low prices. The meetings are a joy and the members friendly and welcoming.
Come on in! Details of the ATS are available online.
