THE CLASSICS CLUB SPIN #20

It's time for another Classics Club Spin!

I don't have a good track record with the Classics Club Spins so I'm hopeful that this time I'll finish reading my selection and actually post a review.

The rules for the spin are simple.

Make a list of twenty books that remain to be read on your Classics Club list. As a suggestion, your list can contain five books you are dreading/hesitant to read, five you can't wait to read, five you are neutral about and five free choice (favourite author, re-reads,ancients etc.)

Before Monday, April 22nd, post the list, numbered one to twenty, on your blog. When the number is announced go to your list and select the book that corresponds to that number. Read that book by May 31st, 2019.

Here's my list:

01. THE NEBULY COAT by John Meade Falkner
02. DEERBROOK by Harriet Martineau
03. THE NEST OF THE SPARROWHAWK by Emmuska Orczy
04. ADAM BEDE, George Elliot
05. OUR SOLDIER BOY BY George Manville Fenn
06. DOMBEY AND SON by Charles Dickens
07. FOR THE TERM OF HIS NATURAL LIFE, Marcus Clarke
08. ORLEY FARM by Anthony Trollope
09. HENRY DUNBAR by Mary Elizabeth Braddon
10. COLONEL JACK by Daniel Defoe
11. OVINGTON'S BANK by Stanley J. Weyman
12. THE BLACK ARROW, Robert Louis Stevenson
13. THE MOONSTONE by Wilkie Collins
14. PENDENNIS by William Makepeace Thackeray
15. THE CHILDREN OF THE NEW FOREST by Frederick Marryat
16. THE PIRATE by Frederick Maryatt
17. SPRINGHAVEN, R.D. Blackmore
18. MARY BARTON, Elizabeth Gaskell
19. MY LOVE MUST WAIT by Ernestine Hill
20. CLARA VAUGHAN by R.D. Blackmore

I'm not too fussed about what number comes up, although #6 Dombey and Son and #14 Pendennis are quite lengthy books and I'd prefer a much shorter one to give me a better chance of completing this spin.

  1. What an interesting list! I loved The Moonstone and remember enjoying The Children of the New Forest years ago, but I haven't read any of your others. The Black Arrow is on my list too, but at a different number.

    1. I remember watching an early TV series of The Children of the New Forest but for some reason never picked up the book.

  2. The Black Arrow is also on my list, but a different number. You have listed quite a few books that I've never even heard of. I did enjoy The Children of the New Forest fairly recently.

    1. Thanks, Cleo. I wouldn't mind if either of those books came up!

  4. I never cease to be amazed at how different these lists can be! I hate to admit it, but I've only heard of 2 of your 20, neither of which I've read. The vastness of the book world can feel overwhelming at times. I hope you do finish and review your book. I want to learn about something new!!

  5. I think I saw a TV version of For the Term of His Natural Life many years ago, possibly starring Colin Friels, but I've yet to read the book. Ernestine Hill's book will be on my next CC list as it is a recent acquisition. Nice to see a couple of Aussie titles on display :-)

    1. I remember that TV series too and it did star Colin Friels. My second-hand copy of Ernestine Hill's book has been sitting on my shelf for ages. It has never been the right time to read it!
